On September 1, 1992, we took a massive leap of faith. We (Jim and Jennie Turnell) purchased Bent Tree Printing and officially dove headfirst into the wild world of small business ownership.
To be completely honest? We knew absolutely nothing about the printing industry. But what we lacked in technical know-how, we made up for in hard work, a desire to serve our community, and a willingness to learn from the ground up. With the incredible support of family, friends, and some wonderfully patient early customers, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.
When we first took over, the “digital age” hadn’t quite reached our doors. Every single job ticket and invoice was typed out by hand on an electric typewriter, and the press equipment was entirely analog.
Shortly after opening, we made a major tech investment: a cutting-edge Apple Color Classic computer. While it has long since retired from actual printing duties, that little retro Mac has traveled with us to all four of our locations. Today, it sits proudly in our office as a daily reminder of our roots and just how far we’ve come.
As the industry evolved, we did too. We brought design in-house, heavily invested in top-tier printing technology, and eventually rebranded as Legacy Print Group—a name that reflects both the enduring quality we provide and the history we’ve built here.
Running a small business over the last three decades has been a beautiful, chaotic journey. It has been equal parts terrifying, challenging, and profoundly gratifying. We have navigated economic shifts, rapid technological changes, and some of the most stressful years small businesses have ever faced. Over the last 30+ years, local businesses and residents have trusted us with their vision. Along the way, clients have truly become dear friends.
